Recently, we lost our neighbor Christine Mason. Her memorial will be August 22nd in
our Community Room.
Ms. Mason was found
in her apartment 2 weeks after her death – in part because no one in the
building had the keys to her apartment or emergency contact information for
her.
Please don’t let that happen to
you. If you live alone, give your emergency contact information and a set of
keys to the super, and give our doorman’s number (212-663-5420) to your family
and friends: If they can’t reach you, the doorman can always reach the super.
More Tenant Issues:
The rent laws expire on June 15, 2015. They'll be renewed (even the landlords want that), but unless the laws are strengthened, tens of thousands of affordable apartments will be lost and landlords will continue to want regulated tenants out.
We sent about 200 signatures to Gov. Cuomo on the petition. Thanks to everyone who signed on and gave money for postage (or paid dues!). If you'd like to sign an on-line petition to the governor (and haven't already signed it), click here.
The Rent Guidelines Board's preliminary vote set a range of increases that will be finalized on June 24th. The range is
- 0-2% increases for 1-year lease renewals, and
- 0.5-3.5% increases for 2-year lease renewals.
The RGB's final vote is Wednesday, June 24, 2015 starting at 6 PM at Cooper Union's Great Hall in the Basement, 7 E. 7th Street at 3rd Avenue in Manhattan.
AirBnB: It's illegal to rent out your apartment when you're not in it.
